I start my speech wishing a “Good morning” to all my revered teachers, respected parents and dear friends. Today we have all assembled here to observe a national event of immense importance. It is August 15 and we are all familiar with the day, the Indian Independence day we can proudly say together. The Independence, no doubt, is one of the most auspicious days of national importance. It is that day when all of the Indian citizens can proclaim that they are independent with joy and bless themselves for their present state.
Soon after India was declared an independent nation
this day back in 1947, it has earned
its importance forever. It is on this day that the Indian subcontinent was
freed from the tyrannical rule of the British, which otherwise had been out and
out misery. Yes, we all know that it was after a long span of 200 years that
the Britishers receded on this date. It
was really a long and tough fight with the Britishers all these years. With the
tireless effort of our freedom fighters, poets, philosophers, strategists and
general citizens, we could finally put a stop to the foreign rule and seized
our independence on this day.
We commemorate Independence
Day every year on the 15th of August. And with it, we remember the first
day of free India and pay respects to the sacrifices of various kinds by the
great leaders, the sons of our country. The freedom struggles had taken
numerous lives, wrecked families, spoiled relationships but were ultimately
successful in earning our freedom.
It was after our country’s independence that we
received a new set of fundamental rights, new rays of hope and a whole country
to explore, a country that can say our home.
We all can raise our heads high up and proclaim that
we are proud to be Indians. Also, we
should reflect on how fortunate we are that we are the citizens of a free
country and drawing our breath without any fear under an able leader, Shri
Narendra Modi. Besides, with the latest military advancements along with the
nerves of steel that our Prime Minister, Modi has, we can challenge a
competitor as powerful as China. Even the deadly coronavirus seems almost
insignificant with the perseverance and the resources that we have at our
disposal.
If we look back at history, we can discover the tales of India, when it wasn’t a free nation. We were simply at the whims of the Britishers. They were extremely rude and cruel to our own fathers as grandfathers, so much so that we simply cannot imagine what suffering they had to endure day in and day out. It was really a tough job to free India from such a rule. It took countless sacrifices of lives from the freedom fighters and other patriots, and a strong struggle from 1857 to 1947 that gained our independence.
It all started with the Indian soldier, Mangal Pandey, who raised his voice
against the British force. Numerous other fighters gradually joined hands with
him like Khudiram Bose, Binay, Badal, Dinesh, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, Rashbehari Bose, Chandra Sekhar Azad,
and Aurobindo Ghose. These people, the reputed leaders of our country have all
been martyrs, without whose noble sacrifices we couldn’t have enjoyed our
lives.
How can we forget the struggles of Gandhi Ji and Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose? One had been the idol of ahimsa and the other, a valiant soul inclined to snatch nothing other than victory. One has instilled the noble virtue of non-violence and the other has faced the outsiders with the heart of a lion. These two brave songs of our motherland along with Jawaharlal Nehru, we finally were shaken off our shackles and frees on 15th August 1947.
It is no less than luck that we are born in a free
country where we haven’t have to toil our days for our rulers and suffer
without any cause. Now, we can work anywhere we like during the day, and refuse
it if we don’t prefer the work. Now, we can sleep all night at peace and
harmony with one another.
Besides, our country is progressing fast in every
other field like science, arts, academics, sports, finance and many more. We
are blessed with Nobel laureates, scientists, artists, philosophers and
academicians. Fortified with one of the strongest and fearful forces of the
army, navy and air force, India is a force to reckon with!
We all have our responsibilities towards our country,
being the citizens of India. We have a comprehensive form of democracy to choose a leader of our
choice and should always be prepared to dedicate our lives to our Motherland.
The upcoming years may see our country prosper in all aspects! With this, I end
my speech!
Jai Hind! Jai
Bharat!
